چکیده

Introduction Application of MR reporter genes is a new strategy in molecular imaging based on over-expression of non-toxic proteins responsible for in vivo uptake of MRI-detectable probes [1-2]. Gene-based production of contrast agents for MR cell tracking has many advantages over the standard approach using exogenous administration of superparamagnetic particles, where the imaging signal does not reflect cell viability and quantity. Ferritin has been proposed as an endogenous MRI reporter for noninvasive imaging of gene expression in C6 glioma tumors [1] and for in vivo studies in the transgenic mice [2]. The potential of using MR reporter genes to study fate of cancer cells engrafted into subcutaneous area of mice has not been explored. We aim to develop genetically-based technique for molecular imaging of the MRI gene reporter ferritin to enable noninvasive assessment of lymph node metastasis of cancer cells after transplantation into subcutaneous area of mice.

A rare case of primary malignant melanoma of cervix with metastasis to inguinal lymph node detected on 18F-FDG PET-CT scan

Primary malignant melanoma of uterine cervix is extremely rare malignancy with very few case published reports. This neoplasm is having poor prognosis, so early diagnosis, staging and treatment is of extreme importance. 18F-FDG PET-CT (18F-labeled fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission computed tomography) scan is an established modality to determine exact extent of disea...

Development and validation of a noninvasive 2-gene molecular assay for cutaneous melanoma

BACKGROUND Clinical and histopathologic assessment of pigmented skin lesions remains challenging even for experts. Differentiated and accurate noninvasive diagnostic modalities are highly desirable. OBJECTIVE We sought to provide clinicians with such a tool. METHODS A 2-gene classification method based on LINC00518 and preferentially expressed antigen in melanoma (PRAME) gene expression was...

Molecular MR imaging of cancer gene therapy: ferritin transgene reporter takes the stage.

Molecular imaging using magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has been actively investigated and made rapid progress in the past decade. Applied to cancer gene therapy, the technique's high spatial resolution allows evaluation of gene delivery into target tissues. Because noninvasive monitoring of the duration, location, and magnitude of transgene expression in tumor tissues or cells provides useful ...

Sentinel lymph node biopsy in melanoma patients: An experience with Tc-99m antimony sulfide colloid

Introduction: Sentinel lymph node biopsy is the standard procedure for lymph node staging in intermediate thickness melanoma. In Iran, this procedure has not been addressed sufficiently. In this study, we report our experience in this area. Methods: Ten consecutive patients with intermediate thickness melanoma where included in our study. 1.5 mCi of Tc-99m antimony...
